Forum: moviesandfilms Subject: Re: Use music from public domain film THE FAT SPY (1966)?

I haven't seen the film, but several songs by Al Kasha, Joel Hirschhorn & Hank Hunter, the trio who wrote the score, are registered for copyright in the Catalog of Copyright Entries, July-December 1965, part 5.

I think these two songs are definitely used in the film:
I'D LIKE TO BE A ROSE IN YOUR GARDEN;
w & m Kasha, Hirschhorn & Hunter.

NANETTE; w & m Al Kasha (Alfred J.
Kasha), Joel Hirschhorn & Hank Hunt-

And I think these might be used in the film as well, since the authors and registration date are the same as for the other two songs mentioned above:
COME ON DOWN; w & m Al Kasha (Alfred J.
Kasha), Joel Hirschhorn & Hank Hunter.

(I might have missed other songs too)

Because these songs were registered separately before the film was published, they should be under copyright. On the other hand, any piece of music from this film that wasn't registered separately would be in the public domain if the film itself actually is in the public domain.
